Perry Kalmus of former Hollywood drudgery has chosen to enjoy his life rather than slave away for the next 20,000 years. And I'm not saying I'm jealous (yes I'm very jealous) but he has put together a great little event series that I finally got to experience last night.
We started out with a very informative Bowmore scotch tasting, in which we were taken on a very nice educational journey behind the history of Whiskey. A little dry for my taste, but sampling some nice scotches certainly made up for the slightly monotone voice.
Then it was Michel Dozois' turn... Amazing bartender, and personal hero in the ice creation world, Michel's name is synonymous with the high end drink market in Los Angeles. He provided a fascinating explanation of the intricacies and importance of gourmet ice in the art of cocktail creation. I also learned that sphere ice = garbage. Best put to use as a base for your massive snowball fight rather than as a chilling device in a fine whiskey.
Cafe Roma also totally scored some points in my book. They have a small bites happy hour menu, where everything is $5 until 9PM! A few $4 Bowmore drinks, a pizza & some fried calamari later, I was a very happy camper.
So thank you Perry for a lovely evening & I'll be sure to check out your future DrinksLA events!
